Film Fundraiser

Last night we enjoyed a night full of interesting conversations with really nice people at a fundraiser for the film Jump Start.

Jump Start is a short film written by Carleen Kyle, introducing actress Jazmine Campanale and produced by Tijana Popovic.

We’re in the finals!

We were pleasantly surprised to receive an email from the editor of Bridal Network letting us know that we’re one of the 12 finalists in their BRIDE.ca Canada Wedding Photography Contest.

Back in January I had the opportunity to photograph a fun ice skating engagement session for couple Meeshelle and Kert. When Meeshelle, an actress and writer, contacted us she already had a few ideas for the session. We decided on ice skating. So, on a cold, damp day in January we met at the Robson Square Ice Rink to capture some casual and intimate images of the two of them just having fun.

I arrived first to scope out the space and plan the order of the session. I haven’t been to this particular rink in over 10 years so when I got there I was a bit concerned about the lighting. The skylight would help but the bright multi-coloured lights directly above the ice posed a problem. The plan, shoot a lot and spend extra time in post-production.

Meeshelle and Kert arrived happy and ready to go. I had the pleasure of photographing Meeshelle before while working as a stills photographer on a film she was in. I knew she was accustomed to being in front of the camera but I wanted to give Kert some time to get comfortable. So, we started with some candid shots of the two of them just skating around. Being eight months pregnant, I stood on the other side of the glass and used a long lens while giving them some space.

After skating we took a few sweet shots of Kert helping Meeshelle with her skates and then grabbed some individual portraits above the rink around the Vancouver Art Gallery. Since the rain was holding up, we headed across the street to a little park and finished off the session with a few photos of the two of them together. They were great to work with and from the images you can’t even tell how cold the day really was.

Please head over to the bride.ca contest page and vote for us. Also, take some time to learn more about Meeshelle and the work she’s doing at her blog. If you’d like to plan a visit to the Robson Square Rink you can find some more info here.
